Tennessean: TSSAA Mr. Football Finalists announced

tssaa newThe TSSAA announced the 2014 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Award finalists on Wednesday, which were nominated by high school head coaches and members of the media.

Nashville Christian’s Alex Givens was named a finalist for Division I Class A Lineman of the Year, while Christ Presbyterian lineman Davis Howell and Pearl-Cohn running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn are both finalists in Division I Class AA.

Vaughn has rushed for 2,185 yards and 24 touchdowns this season.

Oakland lineman Jack Jones, Ravenwood wide receiver Van Jefferson and Blackman quarterback Jauan Jennings are all finalists in Division I Class AAA.

Jones won the award last season. Jennings has used his arm and legs to lead Blackman to a 10-1 record going into Friday’s second-round 6A playoff matchup against Riverdale.

Jefferson, whose Raptors squad is 11-0 entering Friday’s 6A playoff battle against McGavock, has caught 51 passes for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns

Two players from Friendship Christian – lineman Andrew Wood and running back Austin Taylor – were named finalists in Division II Class A, along with Battle Ground Academy quarterback Clay Beathard.

Taylor has rushed for 1,819 yards and 24 touchdowns in leading FCS to a DI-A second-round playoff matchup against St. George’s Friday. Beathard has passed for more than 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns as BGA received a bye and will battle DCA Friday in the second round.

TSSAA releases 2012 Mr. Football Finalists for All ClassesBrentwood Academy lineman Jackson Pittman, Ensworth lineman Myles Douglas and Montgomery Bell Academy quarterback Cole Euverard are all finalists in Division II Class AA.

Euverard has passed for almost 1,500 yards and 16 TDs while rushing for 536 yards and 12 more TDs.

Franklin’s Corey Fatony and Columbia Academy’s Thomas Garrison were both named finalists for Kicker of the Year as well.

The awards, in their 30th year, will be presented on Dec. 1 at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Murfreesboro.
